#1-Standard
The usual style of play involves people with semi-automatic paintball markers going out and trying to accomplish goals against each other. People are also usually allowed to carry as many paintballs as they want. There are many, many ways that you can set these games up. There are also tournaments for people who are really serious about the sport. For different ways to play the game, check out

#2- Civil War style
This type is very easy. All you do is take the hopper off of your marker and load each paintball by hand, one at a time. Then you shoot this paintball and repeat the process. This is pretty fun to play. It really saves paint costs.

#3- Stock
In this type of play people use pump markers. These markers work sort of like shotguns where as you pump it once, fire, pump again, fire, etc. This style often takes more skill because it is slower firing than in standard play. It also saves paint. Don't worry, if you buy a stockgun, most fields will cater to you and set up a stock-only game so that you don't get torn apart by some semi-toting psycho. If you are really in for some fun though, it is fun to play with a stockgun against semis. It gives you some bragging rights if you take out some of those semi players and it really embarasses them.
